Olivia Twisted – a twist on Twist

This post is about a fantastic twist on Twist for those wishing to do an all-female version of Oliver Twist for Kids!

Unfortunately, most plays are male-centric, with few female leads. There are some, such as Pride and Prejudice for Kids and Little Women for Kids (not yet released) that have more roles for females than males. And it is true, that females can play the male leads with no issues in most plays. But sometimes, this gets old. And you want something with more females than males.

So this is a great idea that came about with an all-female cast from a Houston school. Big thanks to Isidro Rodriguez for spurring this creative idea. They were doing Oliver Twist but wanted to know if they could tweak one or two of the characters to be female instead of males. Well, I said for them to have a creative blast with this. And below are some of the key things that they did too make this a female-centric play. So, if you have an all-female cast and need a play with a majority of females, hopefully, this one can add to the limited resources that are out there.

  • Oliver Twist – Olivia Twist
  • Harry Maylie – Hailey Maylie (great play with rhymes there too!)
  • The Artful Dodger – The Artful Dame
  • Monks – Minks (and she likes to wear minks too!)
  • Bill Sykes – Willow or Billie Sykes
  • Fegan – Megan

With these “twists” on Twist – your show is bound to be a great success for all your fabulous actresses!!!

Love to hear other ideas, so please share if you have some!
